Dear Sir,

As you are kindly aware, that our Association is an Apex Body of Commercial and Passenger Road Transport Industry in India with more than 3400 affiliate associations and, members with more than 4 millions vehicles, 17 million people employed directly and indirectly in the industry and working for the economic growth of the Country.

The proposal of Insurance Companies to increase their premium by 150% for the Third Party Cover arbitrarily with effect from 1st January 2007 in the name of liberalization of Insurance sector is totally unjustified.

Even Though the Private Companies entered into the Insurance Sector, they are restricting their operation to premium on new vehicles. On the other hand the Indian Insurance Companies avoiding accepting the Third Party Premium even though the ...   more »

Arbitrary Insurance premium Hike on Third Party

Sir,

As you are kindly aware that our association is an apex body of commercial and passenger road transport industry with more than 3400 affiliate associations and, members and more than 4 millions vehicles, 17 million people employed directly and indirectly in the industry and working for the economic growth of the country.

We are deeply concerned by the announcement of Chairman, IRDA on 150% increase in Third party premium in Motor Insurance. The exorbitant hike in Insurance premium which is most unjustified hit hard and unfairly to every type of Motor Vehicles, but the worst sufferers are the owners of commercial vehicles.

The important issues which are affecting the working

of Road Transport adversely are listed below:-

1.0      Hike in Diesel Price

The All India Motor Transport Congress condemn the hike in diesel and petrol price on 6th September 2005 on the ground that the price of crude had gone up in International Market. We have never objected to pay the increase in the basic price of crude oil but we are certainly opposed to commensurate increase in Customs & Excise Duty and Sales Tax. The price of crude oil was $ 40 per barrel on the day budget was presented to Parliament. The Union Government imposed duties and State Governments imposed Sales Tax on this price. Subsequently, increase in the price of crude oil provided an opportunity to Govt’s to ...   more »

Sub: AIMTC condemns today’s price hike of diesel

All India Motor Transport Congress strongly condemns today’s price hike of Petrol and Diesel by Sri Mani Shankar Aiyer, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas. This increase has come as a death-knell for transport industry, the truck owners are not able to recover even their operational cost and today’s price hike will further increase their miseries. The entire transport industry is opposed to this price hike and demands its roll back forthwith. Any increases in the price by the Central Govt. on petroleum products, the biggest beneficiaries are the state governments because of the increase in Sales Tax.

Agriculture and Transport, both are the backbone of our country’s economy, are adversely affected by the ...   more »

Price of Petroleum Products

The price of crude oil in international market is really volatile for last 3 or 4 months and there appears no respite.

In last week’s newspapers, we have come to know that Union Cabinet has taken in principle a decision to hike the price of petroleum products.  The quantum of increase shall be declared after the return of Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Hon’ble Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas from foreign tour.

All India Motor Transport Congress once again reiterates our demand for no increase in diesel price because it is an item of public utility and not luxury. It is predominantly used in Agriculture and Transport, both are the backbone of our country’s economy.  The AIMTC has always urged that the ...   more »

Respected Sir,

It is certainly the proud privilege of our country to have you as our Prime Minister.  You are also country’s most eminent economist and during your stewardship of Finance Ministry, you realized the importance of transport trade as well as their problems. This was evident from your fixing the notional income of a single truck owner at the rate of Rs. 2,000/- per month, thus saving them from hassles of filing of Income Tax returns.

It was because of incentives given by your good self that lot of unemployed youth got attracted towards the transport sector. This influx ...   more »

AIMTC Deplores Price Hike in Diesel!

AIMTC vehemently deplores the Government's decision to increase diesel prices by Rs. 2/- per liter. The present hike puts an additional burden of Rs. 68 crores per day on the sector. Moreover this follows closely the service tax burden put on the industry recently. The government seems hell bent on destroying transport sector and is blatantly unaware of ramifications of this on national economy.  Thanks to a surfeit of taxes the transport industry is on the brink of a major catastrophe. We are one of the largest sources of revenue for government with each truck generating tax revenue of Rs. 2,28, 575/- p.a. We feel it’s a miracle that the industry is still functioning.

The other major issue is toll roads. We are opposed to toll roads because ...   more »

The timing of this decision will immensely benefit the oil companies and their dealer because today petrol pump dealer are on nation wide strike. Therefore, there will be no off take either from oil co’s or from their petrol pump outlets. We fail to understand the reasons for this timing. This needs a through probe.
